Evan Hecox The Long Way
The Long Way was Denver-based artist Evan Hecox’s fourth solo exhibition at Joshua Liner Gallery, on view beginning February 9, 2017. Featuring fifteen new works on paper, the exhibition drew inspiration from a recent summer road trip through the Southwest, particularly the remote landscapes of southern Colorado and New Mexico. Blending observation with abstraction, Hecox rendered desert terrain, Earthships, and isolated ruins with a minimal yet expressive visual language. Many works distilled complex scenes into their most essential forms—sunsets became perfect arcs, while desert flora took on silhouette-like simplicity—creating a meditative body of work that functions both as personal memory and geometric study. Accompanying pieces included typographic experiments and abstract flags evoking the colors and contours of the American Southwest.
